We are obviously a travelling disaster area! Nicely ensconced in the Commodore’s cocktail party – having noticed the lack of senior officers - when on the Tannoy comes the Commodore himself with a notice that a report had been received and investigated to the effect that an object, which could have been a person, had been seen falling overboard and that he had no option but to return to that position and carry out a search.
In order to account for all the passengers and crew it was back to cabins to be mustered! At first there was a missing passenger and then a missing crew member, but finally everyone was accounted for and we carried on. The muster was actually carried out faster than a drill for the same purpose, so all very orderly.
An RN Liaison Officer embarked in Cochin, so today we had an interesting talk on the role of the British Navy and an update on the piracy situation in this area. Whilst regretting the lack of capability now that HMS Ark Royal is on EBay, Commander Lade felt that the RN could manage the situation and thought it would be unwise to shoot pirates on sight, preferring to tackle the problem politically from the shore – not a view shared by many in the audience!
Dubai tomorrow when we lose Nigel & Lyn, then it will be past Aden and up into the Red Sea. Hopefully a little bumble round the Souks in Dubai and a look around the iconic buildings there.
