After fantastic fireworks, which must have cost a small fortune, we left NYC a bit late and headed for Fort Lauderdale. Ice on deck and freezing cold when we went to bed, it was a balmy 23C in Fort Lauderdale when we got up! Never seen so many ships in port at once - 22,000 passengers moved through the port in one day and we came across Oasis of the Seas (largest afloat at present) and lots of others too. They all left in a majestic procession in the evening, but we couldn't join them because Cunard were faffing with the new turbine - it hung on the crane until 6pm!

Anyway, we were on the Everglades and Flamingos Tour and set off in search of alligators, turtles and suchlike in the Everglades on an airboat! Great fun on the boat, driven by twin V8 Cadillac motors and huge propellers making so much noise they give you earplugs! Hardly a delicate, restrained nature reserve, but this is Florida! Managed a couple of alligators, birds and turtles and then back for the next trip to a Flamingo Garden, which was interesting and colourful. We should have sent for Tilly - there were so many moorhens! Quite nice to be ashore again!
Highlight of the trip was a huge roadside billboard advertising Norwegian Epic! (Nice marketing!!)
New entertainers for this leg and it turns out there are 600 passengers doing the World trip but we disembark 1700 in Cape Town, so maybe it will be a bit quieter on board. Actually there is so much space on this ship it almost seems empty compared to a cruise ship, but there are 2300 passengers aboard at present.
Got down on the dancefloor last night - excellent bands all over the ship. Disco just a bit quiet!
A couple of sea days now before we get to Barbados - a bit later than scheduled because of the turbine!! Planning to refill the rum bottle and have a beach lunch in Holetown
There's a bit of mumbling about Cunard and (would you believe it) too much queuing for our liking, so we will just have to register some concerns with the management. Cruise Critic might be a good forum, Jilly!
Bye for now, sorry about the image quality but to upload larger files takes forever.
